Why Program Promotion Sucks

Thursday, February 02, 2012

On the deal with of it, network marketing should be very efficient. You buy products or service, suggest it to all your associates and create a commission payment rate on what they buy. This 'word-of-mouth' marketing is what the big TV promoters most fear: your products or service certification to your associates actually provides much more power than an costly tele-ad.

So, you create a few money or dollars on each purchase. But the big cash comes (or is expected to) when you sponsor your companion to do as you have done - to suggest the product or service to all their associates - and sponsor them into the network, too. And you get a few dollars on their revenue, and as your network increases greatly, so does your earnings. So why doesn't it work? Why do 97% of promoters fail?

There are two major solutions. First, the comp strategy. To create anything at all you have to switch products. Assume that you get $1 on regular for each obtain that runs through your organization. That indicates that you and your group have to create 100 revenue to create you $100. That's not much. To stay the life you considered of, to provide up your day-job, to hang out with your household, to pay off your home bank financial loan and car bank financial loan and credit-card financial obligations, you're probably going to need $500,000 (at least!) At $1 a pop it's going to take you a lengthy, period of your energy and attempt.

Which is where the 'recruitment' aspect of the enterprise comes in. If only you could sponsor enough individuals into your group you could switch all that products and get vibrant. But you've run out of associates, and anyway, most of them don't want to know or are awful at social media. So this is the second purpose why promoters fall short. To grow your organization you have to go out and sponsor guests. And most individuals dislike doing this. It's challenging, demoralizing and tiring. So 97 small enterprise owners out of 100 quit and fall short. The fantasy shrivels and passes away.

So what's the answer?

Making a lot of money $1 each time is not the way to go. And cold-calling guests is about as much fun as taking your own the pearly whites.

Just neglect the conventional network marketing model: instead look at it from a tycoon's perspective. You'll bring in more cash for less attempt if you provide a big admission product. Instead of creating $1 revenue per purchase, why not create $500? And if promoting to guests gives you a discomfort in the go, why not delegate? Finish the job over to the professionals and let them do all the schmoozing, promoting and ending. This is what I do and you could do the same.

You can perform it from anywhere on the planet from behind your display. This is not a chart, neither is it MLM. And you can do it even if you are an entire and out-and-out introvert

Why is a Salesperson like a Refrigerator?

Let me ask, have you heard the joke about the light being on inside the fridge? Top sales professionals, like fridges, are always "on".

Let me ask, have you heard the joke about the light being on inside the fridge? You know, where you were asked to open the door of the fridge and voila, the light was on. Now I know you know the light only comes on when you open the door. But the refrigerator is always on! It has to be to do its job.

Top sales professionals, like fridges, are always "on". This is especially true for those who need to prospect to find new clients.

One individual I know worked many years as an electrician for a major U.S. automobile manufacturer. At the suggestion of a good friend, he decided to pursue a sales career in the financial services industry. This was a pretty major change in vocation; he went from dealing with watts and volts to handling people's investment and insurance needs.

Was he a success? Well, in his first full year he shot up to becoming the top rep in North America for his company. To prove he was not a one hit wonder, he repeated this feat his second year, and yes, the third year too! To this day, he remains one of the top reps with his company.

So how did an electrician, now a salesman, become so successful? If you ask this modest man, he will say "It's simple really, you do the best you can for your client, and you always have to be on."

To meet this gentleman, you would know someone with an insatiable appetite for learning. He wanted to know everything he could about financial planning and the products he represented. He was a keen student of his sales manager and a constant observer of the successful reps around him. He was a sponge.

One day, I asked him what he meant when he said being "on". He told me "To be successful I have to meet a lot of new people. I have to be able to tell them quickly what it is I do and how I can help them." He went on to say, "I look at everyone as an opportunity." "When I go to the super-market I look for the longest line and stand in it, I know I'll have a chance to strike up a conversation with the person in front of me, and the person who comes behind me." Talk about captive audience.

I marvelled at one story he told me about when he went shopping for a bed cover and pillows. After he completed his purchase he thought, "I've done business with you, you should do business with me." He proceeded to book an appointment with the sales clerk who had sold him his pillows. He also asked if she would introduce him to her manager and the other sales clerks. He left the store that day with five appointments booked in his day timer.

Why? Because he was always "on".

Top sales people maintain a laser like focus combined with a strong desire to succeed.

Don't be as cold as a refrigerator, but do think about being "on" all the time.

The Three Warning Signs of Not Doing Enough Prospecting

Almost any salesperson can improve their results by doing more prospecting. When an salesperson is brand new in the business, oftentimes prospecting takes up a large part of their time because they really have no active transactions they're working on. But sometime thereafter salespersons can get out of the habit of prospecting regularly once they feel busy and working on activity. The problem here is that feeling busy doesn't necessarily translate into making more money, oftentimes leaving salespersons feeling frustrated at why their results aren't improving.

Sometimes when asked how much their income would increase over the next 12 months if they made sure to prospect 10-12 hours during every week that they're working, the majority of people feel that their income would at least double, some say triple, and nearly everyone feels that their income would increase by at least 25%.

Sometimes salespersons have lulled themselves into believing they're prospecting more hours than they really are in their business. Once these clients recognize that the number of hours per week they're actually prospecting is abysmal, they recognize that it's definitely time to get themselves moving.

So in case you're wondering if you're prospecting enough in your business right now, consider these three warning signs to watch out for that may indicate that your level of prospecting needs to be improved.

Warning Sign #1

After Years in the Business, You're Still Doing a Lot of Cold Calling, Not Warm Calling

If you find after years of being in the business that when you prospect people, they still don't know who you are, you're not prospecting these people enough to build the kinds of relationships that will easily lead to more business for you. salespersons who prospect a lot get to a point where many of their calls are "warm calls," meaning that they're calling and talking to people they've already talked with before. So if you're not experiencing a lot of warm calls after having been in the business for a number of years, it may be because you're not doing a lot of prospecting.

Warning Sign #2

You're Finding People and Companies Who Have Requirements, But After It's Too Late to Begin Working with Them

This is one of the biggest nightmares salesperson can experience. You've identified someone who's ready to take action, but they're already committed to working with someone else...your competitor. So why weren't you in contact with these people months ago when they were just beginning to realize they needed to talk to a salesperson? It may be because you haven't been doing much prospecting on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Warning Sign #3

You Hear About Transactions Closing in Your Area That You Never Even Knew Were Happening

If you find out through others or through the media that someone has bought, sold, or leased in the territory you work in, and you didn't even know that was available, or that the people or company were looking, this too is a sign that you may not be doing enough prospecting.

So how did you measure up? Did you find that any of these three warning signs applied to you?

Prospecting is one of the most difficult activities for many of us to continually do in sales. Who normally wants to put themselves out there in a situation where maybe nine times out of ten you'll be rejected or end up talking with people who just aren't interested in doing anything?

The point is, though, that the one call out of ten where the people may be interested in doing something is the one that will make you huge amounts of money throughout the year, as long as you're making these calls every single week (or canvassing in person if you prefer).

So evaluate where you're at in your level of prospecting right now. And if you feel your income could definitely be improved by prospecting 10-12 hours or more every single week, do what you must to make sure you get this prospecting done.
